The PMW-500 is Sony Professional’s first XDCAM HD422 Camcorder with solid state recording. It supports full-HD 422 50-Mbps MXF record and playback based on highly developed MPEG-2 Long GOP compression technology. Uniquely, it can also be switched to record in HD 420 35-Mbps MP4 format which makes for seamless integration when used alongside XDCAM EX models.
I like this camrea and want to use Final Cut to edit videos from Sony PMW-500 and make some presentation. However, Final Cut Studio does not import the Sony PMW-500 MXF Videos. Via Google, I find that UFUSoft MXF Converter for Mac is the recommended program to convert Sony PMW-500 MXF files to Apple ProRes 422/4444 MOV for Final Cut Studio like Final Cut Pro X, FCP 7/6.
Here is the step-by-step guide for you to import and edit Sony PMW-500 MXF to Final Cut on iMac/MacBook Pro with Mac OS X like Mavericks/Mountain Lion.
Step 1: Run UFUSoft Mac Sony MXF to FCP Converter, connect your Sony PMW-500 camcorder or memory card to Mac, copy the MXF files to your hard drive, and then import them into the MXF conversion software.
Step 2. Click the “Format” option, and move mouse cursor to Final Cut Pro > Apple ProRes 422/4444 (*.mov) as output format. Click the “Settings” button and choose 1920*1080 from the drop-down box of video size to keep HD resolution.
Step 3. Click the Convert button under the preview window, the Mac Sony MXF Converter will start converting full-HD 422 50-Mbps MXF footages from Sony PMW-500 to ProRes for FCP X/7/6. After the conversion from PMW-500 MXF to ProRes 422 for FCP or PMW-500 MXF to ProRes 4444, you can import the output .mov files to Final Cut Studio for editing.
